Well guys, and girls, oh what fun we've had!

The last couple of months have brought changes a vast into the original-dave camp.

Firstly, our bassist of the last 18 months and 40+ gigs, John 'Frodo' Blackshaw, has finally seen the light and returned to the first love of his life - playing the six-string. So it was with tears in our eyes that our John-Boy fled to pastures new (to long term fellow band, Blythe Curse), to fiddle with his main instrument. As the tinges of fear entered our peripheral vision, Mark 'Knowlesy' Knowles rode upon his Fender Jazz of loveliness to the rescue. Currently of Catboy and the Dogs of Sin fame, (remember them from the Brunswick back in March?), and previously a prominent member of Screaming Faeces, Things Without Feathers, Creeper, Ground Cell and Start, Mark has now happily joined the brotherhood of Dave. Mark's interests include sweet peas, Dead Kennedy's and head polishing and in case you missed it, he debuted with us at The Pav in Leicester, last Friday and touched everyone there (he played OK too).

Talking of gigs, we kicked over the 50th gig landmark, the week before The Pav, with a charity busking event in Matlock in aid of 'Helen's Trust' - a charity specializing in helping folk with terminal illnesses stay in their home and in total the shindig raised over £187. This is likely to be featured in Nick's corporate work rag, so all Wincanton folksies keep your peepers peeled for the Original Daviness in the August edition of the Wincanton M & S Contract newsletter.

The Matlock gig also gave us the chance to debut the Dave's acoustic set featuring Djembe, Mandolin and 12-String guitar, which you can also see at our next exclusively acoustic set at The Brewery Tap in Derby on the 15th August. Nb, this is going to be played on a balcony (aka U2 - Where the Streets Have No Name stylee), so starting early at 7PM to avoid playing in the dark! And make sure you pencil in the 26th September at The Brunswick, one of our own events with support from The Maybeez and Satnam's Tash.

Theory Of Devolution EP. By Original-Dave

Original Dave is a four piece Derby based alternative rock band that have just launched their debut EP.

Theory of Devolution with high production values this five track disc will have you intrigued by its content. Track one is Twisted Bush written before the recent American presidential change over; Twisted Bush is a six minute critique of the Bush administration and it pulls no punches. Apathy is track two this number pokes a ridiculing finger at the celebrity generation we now live in, people who are happy to watch junk TV all day and be told what to think and do and at seven minutes long it's an epic. Track three is my favourite Raven is heavy metal packed with Back Sabbath riffs much more my kinda thing than the previous two cerebral songs. The Raven is coming for you and ya betta believe it mother f@ckers! Man & Beast takes us right back to the dawn of civilisation, this thought provoking ballad will have you dreaming of hunting woolly mammoths and high tailing it to the caves at the sight of a sabre tooth tiger, you can almost hear David Attenborough's commentary in the background.
Track five is an acoustic version of Littlest Things a psychedelic romp that if you close your eyes will transport you back to the sixties, Original Dave in the sky with joss sticks, play those tom toms man! Over all Theory of Devolution holds a vast amount of interest from the cleaver lyrics to some cool tunes and track three is the winner for GD: International man of Metal!!!

Theory of Devolution EP Launch 28TH MARCH 2009

Wow I just can't stop playing with it and looking at it!! As you have probably guessed Original Dave has a shiny new EP. After 4 days of Rock, scream burgers, pressure and power naps (well for certain members of the band) and 'Theory of Devolution' is born. I think I can speak for all members of the band when I say that completing this recording has definitely been one of the greatest experiences to date and it sounds awesome. original-dave would like to thank Rich at Snug Recordings for being so on the ball, making our eyes go all whirly with the technicality of it all and for providing coffee that gives you super powers!

Our work is far from done though; the artwork is nearing completion and the bonus tracks are in the making as we speak; it�s all coming together rather nicely.

What's that I hear, you want to know where you can get your hands on one of the super duper EP's?? Well fear not, all you have to do is come to the Brunswick Inn on the 28^th March and you will be presented with one on the door (included in the modest entry price of £4) along with a night of extreme entertainment with music from Blythe's Curse and Cat Boy and The Dogs of Sin, with original-dave rounding things off.

February News Latest Update

Original-Dave has gone from 1^st to 5^th gear in the last few weeks with news coming thick and fast. Firstly our EP Launch Gig has been finalised and we are pleased to announce that the Saturday 28^th March will see Original-Dave back in the limelight and strutting our funky stuff at the Brunswick Inn (�4 on the door which will include a copy of our newly recorded EP, see below for more info on the EP). Check back for support band news.

The new material is starting to take great shape now (We've spent hours lassoing our minds to ensure they don't float away!) with the 3 new tracks officially named 'One of Those Days', 'People' and 'Flower Towards The Sun'.

The EP recording is less than 4 weeks away now and after much musing (and staring at Nick's beard) we feel a fitting name for the EP is 'Theory of Devolution'. We have some original art work being created as we speak so watch this space.

A music video is in the planning process as we speak to accompany one of the songs being released onto the EP, we've not made a final decision which as of yet, so watch this space. This will be Original-Dave's first foray into YouTube.

After many months of being faced with a "new website coming" upon arrival of original-dave.com, the band has the great pleasure of announcing that the website has officially been lauched as of today (19th Jan). Although we will still be keeping MySpace and Facebook upto date, its intended that 'dave.com will be the "authoritive" point of contact with the band with this site being updated first over everything else.

As you are also aware, we are going into the studio at the end of this month to record our next E.P. We are intending to get our new tunes uploaded onto iTunes, link to be posted here very shortly after the E.P. is recorded.

New E.P. to Be Recorded Next Month

We have finished scoffing mince pies, drinking whiskey and smoking mistletoe and are back in the rehearsal studio for the start of what promises to be a cracking 2009 for Original Dave.

A new EP recording is the top of our hit list and we are spending a lot of time tweaking to the point of perfection. We will have 4 top quality songs to give to the world, (with extra-special surprise track included), and have finally booked 4 solid days in the studio to get it nailed. So keep tabs here for the EP launch gig date which will be announced very soon!

We haven't been sitting on our laurels either, with new material coming through thick and fast. 3 new songs in particular are being developed, christened the "F6 Song" (another anti-captialism song), "Prog Song" (cue screaming, crying and toy piano), and "One of Those Days" (a summer day in the life of 'Dave). All of which pull in their own musical direction, giving some serious pleasure for your ear pussies(!)

Well , that's a bit of an update and reminder that we haven't gone away, so check back here in the next few weeks to keep abreast of what's to come for Original-Dave.

to Put Their Feet Up

Well guys and girls... that's it. We played our final gig of the year last night at The Venue! We are taking a break now as we are completely knackered and have been gigging our ass's off (last night was our 32nd gig THIS YEAR!).

Don't fret though! We will be back in March 2009 with a gig listing as long as our arm, a new (properly recorded!) EP, a new website and a number of new songs for you to mull over with a slightly different sound (the keyboard has made an entry in one song already).

Once again we want to thank all our friends/family and fans who have constantly supported all year long. Thanks guys, you are all awesome! Also many thanks to the people and promoters we have met along the way........ without you we couldn't gig.
